Is Facebook Dying?: No! It’s Still Being Used!

If Facebook is still a popular social media platform, then why are there so many articles about “is Facebook dying”? Everyone has their own Facebook story – some people love it and use it daily, while others have deleted the app from their phone. Is Facebook dying out or is this just a passing trend? In this blog post, we will explore both sides of the argument to get to the bottom of whether Facebook needs your attention now more than ever before.

Facebook Hype

Even though many individuals seem to believe it, Facebook is not going away. Despite its reduced popularity, Facebook still has a following.

In recent years, there’s been a lot of discussion that Facebook and FB advertising may be on their way out. There’s no hiding that Facebook is the current leader in social media, but Facebook is not the only player.

Facebook Lacks Innovation

A lot of Facebook’s decline can be attributed to its lack of innovation and failure to stay relevant to its users’ current trends. Facebook has seemingly failed to keep up with other social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat because it doesn’t understand what people want. Maybe it is stuck in it’s old ways but Facebook is not alone in this. Facebook has been accused of many things, but it’s important to remember that Facebook did create the social media platform and remains one of (if not) the most powerful social platforms today.

Facebook may be lagging behind other sites like Instagram or TikTok, but Facebook still has a following. As of July 2021, Facebook has approximately 51.15 million users in the UK. It has not changed the way it works or what people can do with Facebook, but that seems to be its issue – Facebook doesn’t know how to adapt and evolve like other social media sites. The premise of Facebook has stayed the same, maybe that’s what attracts users to it? The platform that they know and love!

Facebook might have started in 2004 but young users are leaving Facebook in favour of newer platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, or even TikTok. It’s has been around for a long time, and perhaps that’s why its users are loyal to the platform. Facebook will always have a following but it needs to do more in order to stay relevant with younger audiences. Otherwise, it’s going to find its userbase slowly declining for other platforms that offer better content or other features.

Is Facebook dying? No, in short – Facebook is still being used by lots of people due to their loyalty towards the platform. Facebook doesn’t need major changes to keep its users, but it needs new features and content to stay relevant with young audiences. Facebook has been around for a long time so older generations are still using Facebook while younger people move onto newer platforms such as Instagram or TikTok.

Security Concerns

Over the last few years, Facebook has had quite a few privacy issues that have caused a lot of controversies. Facebook has been known for sharing private data with questionable third party applications and apps, as well as the Cambridge Analytica scandal which resulted in Facebook having to pay out £500,000 due to breaking privacy laws by allowing an app called “This Is Your Digital Life” access to their user’s personal data without their consent. Facebook has also had issues with allowing fake news to spread, resulting in Facebook becoming the most discredited brand in 2018.

Other Issues?

Facebook has also been criticised for not doing enough to prevent hate speech and terrorist content on their site, as well as the fact that they don’t do enough to protect minors from seeing inappropriate material such as pornography or graphic images of violence which can be viewed by people who are underage.

All this negative press surrounding Facebook has made lots of people doubt whether they should be using it or not. While these issues have done a lot of damage to Facebook’s reputation over the last few years, it doesn’t seem like they’ve stopped people from using Facebook completely, as Facebook is still being used by lots of people every day across the globe. Facebook’s reputation has certainly taken a dent, but there are still so many people who use Facebook and it is perhaps the most popular social media platform out of all of them.

Good News if you Love Facebook

Is Facebook dying? No, it is still being used by so many people every day and Facebook has been trying to counter the bad press they’ve received over the last few years with a big focus on building up trust with their users, as well as making Facebook a safe environment again. It’s a very profitable company, Facebook is making a lot of money and it still has so many users. Facebook is the most popular social media platform in North America for example, with around 70% of adults using Facebook on a monthly basis according to recent stats from Pew Research Center.
