The challenge

The problem

J Manny install and maintain automatic doors, shopfronts, roller shutters and access control for commercial clients across the UK. The work is national, but the buying is not: a facilities manager in Exeter searches differently from one in Gloucester, Cardiff or Birmingham, and each of those searches is contested by a local firm who only has to win in one place.

That is a hard shape of problem. A single national site struggles to rank in a dozen separate local markets, and paid search across that many locations and services gets expensive fast if it is not run tightly. Alongside it sits the rest of a real marketing operation: a site that needed to keep pace with the business, content that needed writing, and campaigns that needed someone thinking about them every week rather than every quarter.

What they needed was not a project. It was a marketing department.

The build

What we built

The paid account is the engine. It has run across search, Performance Max and display, split by service and by region, and has served 13.75 million impressions and 144,228 clicks over the relationship. Budget moves toward whatever is converting: the servicing campaign converts at 15.2%, and the best performing Performance Max campaign brings leads in at £5.22 each.

Organic sits underneath it, so the same enquiries do not have to be bought twice. J Manny hold position one for "aluminium shopfronts" and "automatic door services", rank in the top ten for nineteen terms, and have built a backlink profile of over 1,100 links from 301 referring domains from a standing start.

  • One marketing manager on the account every week, not a shared queue
  • Website built and maintained in house by us
  • Local SEO across a dozen separate regional markets
  • Paid search and Performance Max, structured by service and region
  • Campaign landing pages and standalone microsites
  • Blog and newsletter written and sent on an agreed rhythm

How we did it

Our approach

We act as J Manny's marketing team, not a supplier they brief occasionally. Six things run in parallel, and have done since 2020.

01

A dedicated marketing manager

One of our managers works on J Manny for a set number of days every week. Same person, same knowledge of the business, planning and running the work rather than waiting to be asked.

02

The website

Their site is built and maintained by us, structured around the services they sell and the sectors they sell into, and kept moving as the business changes.

03

SEO across a national footprint

Location and service pages built to win in each market separately, from Exeter and Plymouth through Bristol, Bath and Gloucester to Cardiff, Swansea and the Midlands.

04

Google Ads at scale

A structured account across search and Performance Max, split by service and region so budget follows what converts instead of being spread evenly and wasted.

05

Landing pages and microsites

Dedicated pages and standalone microsites for specific services and campaigns, so paid traffic lands somewhere built for one job rather than on a general page.

06

Blog and newsletter

Regular content answering what their customers actually search for, and a newsletter that keeps J Manny in front of the clients they already have.

What it looks like

The result

What changed

Paid search has produced 10,011 leads for J Manny at an average cost of £31 each, from £310,134 of managed spend across the relationship. The strongest campaigns run far below that average: servicing converts at 15.2% and brings leads in at £14, and the best Performance Max campaign at £5.22.

On the organic side they went from nothing in January 2020 to ranking for 147 terms, holding number one for "aluminium shopfronts" (590 searches a month) and "automatic door services", with nineteen keywords in the top ten and 301 referring domains built from scratch.

Six years in, the arrangement is the point as much as the numbers are. J Manny do not run a marketing department, and do not need to.
