Strong Steel Doors
Instant pricing on a configurable product
Strong Steel Doors, steel door suppliers.
The challenge
The problem
Strong Steel Doors were starting out, and wanted to do it properly from the beginning. The aim was for a customer to price a steel door and place the order on their own, straight from the website, without a member of staff having to get involved at any point.
Steel doors are not a fixed product. Sizes are made to the opening, and each type carries its own options and upgrades. All of that had to be handled without making the customer's job harder.
The build
What we built
A pricing and ordering app built into their existing website. A customer specifies the door they need, including custom sizes, sees a real price, and places the order there and then.
Each door type carries its own options, upgrades and extras, with the detail a buyer needs to choose between them. That includes the acoustic and fire rated specifications, so someone buying for a building with a requirement to meet can select against it rather than guess.
- Step by step configuration: door type, dimensions, specification
- Custom sizes priced to the structural opening
- Options, upgrades and extras specific to each door type
- Acoustic and fire rated specifications available at the point of choosing
- Location, RAL colour, opening direction and hinged side all priced in
- Price and order in one go, with no wait for a call back
What it looks like

The result
What changed
Customers price and order a steel door themselves, to their own sizes, with no human intervention needed at any point in the process. For a business at the start of its life, that means orders are not limited by who is available to quote them.
The detail sitting behind each door type does the work a salesperson would otherwise be doing on the phone: explaining the differences, and making sure the specification a customer lands on is the right one for the building it is going into.
